All surfaces seem to be polished with a ground finish. The vertical motion has adjustable brass gibs. Negatives: the T-nuts on the vise are too small and rotate in the slots. The vise has to be mounted off center or the handle of the vise strikes the milling side. The screws that connect the vise to the base are just barely long enough to engage the t-nuts.
