The 15 millisecond average seek time can provide instant search results for files from within a huge database. The Toshiba MK1231GAL hard drive can handle all kinds of modern applications with ease. Designed for the Classic 6th Generation iPod, the hard drive can store music, photos, movies, and much more. Its slim form can make it perfect for small portable devices, and its quick transfer speed can mean less wait time for you.The small pins on this hard disk mean that it can work like a miniature PATA interface. This can make it compatible with a number of other MP3 players. The MK1231GAL can fit a variety of other devices, so check compatibility to be sure. It has a zero insertion force connector, or ZIF. This means you can safely insert the connector. Simply line the pins on the internal iPod board up with the drive, and it can lock in place automatically. Very little pressure is necessary, which can help reduce strain on the hard case.This type of connector only draws around 500mA. This means your new drives draw little from the battery of the device, so more battery life can be available to the CPU and GPU in your player. The volume may lengthen the amount of time you go between charges. If you're watching longer video files, then the drive can go to sleep after it puts enough data in the buffer. The disk draws no current at all when it's in sleep mode. Once the disk receives a signal to wake up, it spins the platters up again. This setup can help ensure a smooth media player experience with low draw.If you're revitalizing an older Apple iPod, then you can install whatever MBR partition table your device needs to boot. Once you have the partition table in place, you can also install a free and open-source OEM firmware replacement. Any model that can accept Rockbox as additional firmware can work with this HDD. If you're working with newer 6th Generation devices, then this drive can be a simple drop in replacement. External accessories may be used, but only if you wish to because the drive can operate by itself.Toshiba made sure that these drives have all the safety features needed to keep the devices running well. The disk controller can perform a check each time the device reads or writes data. The controller receives feedback from the system software about whether or not the operation was successful. If not, then it reads the information from the buffer and moves it to another location on disk. The massive 120 GB capacity can give it more than enough space to handle the task. Once it's successfully relocated the data to a new block, the controller firmware automatically marks the old block as bad. This can keep media files safe and increases the lifespan of the platters.
