This book documents, with photographs and complete descriptions, the more than 2,200 Native Alaskan (Eskimo, Aleut, Northwest Coast, and Athapaskan) objects originally collected by the Alaska Commercial Company and donated to the University of California in 1897. Introducing the catalogue are essays on the historical background and cultural context and significance of the collection. Es sind der aTeutsche Kriegs-Kuriero, der 1673 in dem bedeutenden Handelszentrum Nurnberg erschien, die seit 1665 publizierte aOxford Gazetteo bzw. aLondon Gazetteo und die franzosische, 1631 in Paris veroffentlichte aGazetteo bzw. aNouvelles Ordinaireso. Fur ihre Studien zu den Schwerpunktjahren 1672 bis 1679 verbindet die Autorin erfolgreich historisch-hermeneutische mit empirischen Methoden, so daa ihre Inhaltsanalysen beeindruckend differenziert ausfallen. Dadurch gelingt es ihr, das gesamte Spektrum der azeitgeschichtlicheno Berichte und Kommentare zu Krieg und Frieden, zum Alltag und zu Sensationen, Argumentationsstrukturen und Feindbildern, deren sprachliche Darstellung und publizistische Form ausfuhrlich und quellennah zu interpretieren. Das Buch vermag dem bisherigen Bild von der aeuropaischen Offentlichkeito scharfere Konturen zu verleihen.
