Here is a very good quality antique inlaid Irish mahogany George III kneehole bureau desk (circa 1760 - 1780). The bureau is in working order and is profusely inlaid with satinwood shells and a large couch shell to the fall. The bureau features a busy interior with seven small drawers, brass knobs and two additional secret drawers behind the inlaid internal door. There is green tool leather within the fall. All drawers are inlaid with satinwood. The four graduating drawers are oak lined and hand dove tailed. The bureau sits on its original bracket feet. This item is an excellent investment, which has stood the test of time.
The bureau would look superb in a variety of rooms from the office, hallway, living room or dining room. This item base would certainly grace any home. So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
The bureau is in good working order. The inlay on the fall is original. Some of the inlay on the front has been added during Victorian times. The brass swan neck handles are very old replacements. The bureau has been converted to a kneehole desk a long time ago. There is a working key to the fall and drawers. There is a replacement working lock key to the internal door behind the fall. The leather is in good condition. The left corner of the fall is slightly raised but is firm – some movement is to be expected in bureaus of this age. Free of worm, solid in joint and ready to use. Please remember that this item is over 200 years old so there will always be some minor wear.
